鳥取県西伯郡大山町にある名和神社は、隠岐の島から脱出した後醍醐天皇を迎え、船上山で敵軍と戦った南朝の忠臣・名和長年をはじめとする一族を祀った元別格官幣社です。神社の規模としては鳥取県内でも有数のもので、参道は桜が植えられて名所になっています。

名和神社のアクセス方法ですが、公共交通機関であればJR山陰本線名和駅から徒歩５分ほどです。
自動車の場合は、山陰自動車道名和インターチェンジより約５分となっています。境内には無料駐車場がありますので、車でも安心です。

名和神社の御由緒については、社頭に次のとおり書かれています。

名和神社建武の忠臣名和長年公はじめ、一族四十二名をまつる神社。
元弘三年(一三三三年)、長年公は隠岐島に流されていた後醍醐天皇の脱出を助け、天皇を船上山に迎え鎌倉幕府軍を破った。
後醍醐天皇は、この年、鎌倉幕府を倒し、天皇親政を復活(建武の新政)、長年公はこの新政権で重用された。
現在の社殿は昭和十年に完成。建築界の重鎮伊藤忠太の指導のもと、明治神宮を造営した角南隆が手がけた。本殿から日本海を望むと、海を越え一直線上に後醍醐天皇隠岐行在所がある。
また、境内は名和公の米倉があった所で、合戦の折りこれを焼き払ったため、神社の裏から今でも焼き米が出てくる。Nawa Shrine
A shrine in Nawa town, which commemorates Nagatoshi, a military commander from the Nanbokusen Era.
In 1333. Nagatoshi helped EmperorGodaigo escape from the Okinoshima Islands, where he was in exile. He escorted the emperor to Mt. Senjosan and defeated the enemy troops there.
Emperor Godalgo ended the Kamakura Shogunate the same year and revived emperororiented politics, Nagatoshi was appointed to a responsible position within the new administration, but he was killed in 1336 during a fight with Ashikaga Takauji, who was leading an uprising.
The present shrine buildings were completed in 1935. If you look across the Sea of Japan from the main hall of the shrine, you can imagine the remains of Emperor Godaigo’s exile residence on the Okinoshima Islands.
